Wendy Marijnissen nasceu em Hoogstraten, na Bélgica, em 1974. Começou a fotografar em part-time no mundo do teatro e da música e rapidamente se interessou por ir ao encontro de histórias dentro de contextos sociais. As suas primeiras reportagens foram sobre uma companhia de teatro com actores com deficiência mental e um abrigo para mulheres na Palestina.

Em 2008, Wendy concluiu uma reportagem de longo prazo em Israel e Palestina, mostrando como as pessoas tentam continuar as suas vidas em condições difíceis tendo a música como guia.

Em 2009 tornou-se freelancer. Regressou a Jerusalém para documentar a história de duas famílias palestinianas que viviam na rua após terem sido expulsas pelos colonos das suas casas em Jerusalém Oriental.

Vive regularmente em Antuérpia, mas está a desenvolver um projecto para as Nações Unidas (UNEFPA - United Nations Population Fund) sobre cuidados de saúde materna no Paquistão.

Wendy Marijnissen was born in Hoogstraten, Belgium in 1974. Starting out part-time in photography in the theatre and music world in Belgium, she quickly went looking for stories in a social context. She photographed a theatre company that works with mentally disabled actors, a women's shelter in Palestine for elderly and disabled women, etc… In 2008 she completed a long-term reportage in Israel and Palestine, using music to show a different part of daily life in this stressful and violent region. Picturing how people try to continue their lives under difficult conditions with music as a guide.

In 2009 she decided to go for freelance photography full-time and last summer she returned to Jerusalem to document the lives of two Palestinian families that were evicted from their East Jerusalem homes and were living on the streets while settlers took over their houses.

She is based in Antwerp, Belgium and continues working extensively in the region. At the moment she started a new project on fistula and maternal health care in Pakistan of which an extract will be published later on this year on the 'End Fistula campaign' website of the UNFPA.
