MICHAEL ROBINSON CHÁVEZ 

Michael Robinson Chávez nasceu em Ventura, na Califórnia, em 1969. Trabalhou para o Washington Post, The Boston Globe e Associated Press, e desde 2007 é fotojornalista dos quadros do The Los Angeles Times.

Fez reportagens nos EUA, Peru, Israel, Índia e Iraque, entre outros países. Foi diversas vezes premiado e duas vezes nomeado Fotógrafo do Ano pela The White House News Photographers’ Association (2004 e 2007). O seu trabalho tem sido exibido por diversas vezes internacionalmente, com destaques para o Festival Visa Pour l'Image (França), Galeria Corcoran de Washington (EUA), Imagenes Havana (Cuba), International Photo Festival de Gijon (Espanha), Ojo Ajeno em Lima (Peru), War Photo Ltd. Gallery em Dubrovnik (Croácia) e MUME-Museu Memorial de l'Exili, La Jonquera (Espanha).

Publicou em 2009 «Awaiting the Rain: Photographs of Peru» e dedica-se também a fazer palestras, workshops e seminários de fotografia um pouco por todo o mundo.

Michael Robinson Chávez has been a photographer at The Los Angeles Times since 2007. Prior to that, he worked for The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and the Associated Press. In addition to local stories, he has covered wide-ranging assignments including: the 2006 Hezbollah/Israeli war, slum life in India, gold mining in Peru, the conflict in Israel/Palestine and the US led invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Michael won the Scripps Howard Award for Photojournalism in 2008 and won second place Photographer of the Year in Pictures of the Year International. He has twice been named Photographer of the Year by The White House News Photographers’ Association in 2004 and 2007. He has also won awards from the Best of Photojournalism, Society of Newspaper Design and the Social Documentary Award.

His work has been exhibited widely, including the Visa Pour l'image festival in France, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, Imagenes Havana in Cuba, International Photo Festival in Gijon, Spain, Ojo Ajeno in Lima, Peru, the War Photo Ltd. Gallery in Dubrovnik and at the Museu Memorial de l’Exili in Spain.

In addition he lectures and teaches at workshops and seminars worldwide.
